*** = This is not the best audio-visual quality or video length I'd prefer, but hopefully it was clear enough for you to watch.
In the director's commentary about this scrapped alternate opening to The Incredibles film, Brad Bird spoke on how this scene (which was sadly dropped from the film for story and time constraints) was inspired by his wife. She'd made the decision to leave her career in order to focus on raising their children. Later whenever she had conversations with others (not unlike the one Helen tried to take part in), Bird commented how they would get a glazed, disinterested look in their eyes whenever she brought up that she was a homemaker, especially other career women.
With this point being highlighted, it seemed only fitting to include it in a journal that revolves around women/women's rights/feminism.
With toxic ideals on masculinity being our most ready and common foe, it's easy to forget that thoughts and attitudes held by other women can be just as much of a hurdle for us.
We forget that being a mother or a family caretaker is every bit as important as a doctor, lawyer, businesswoman, or the leader of a nation.
As a microcosm, the home is a nation unto itself.
And what is part of a true & decent mother or likewise female caregiver in our lives but a personal chef, doctor, lawyer, merchant, or spiritual advisor?
What's more, they do all of this, not just out of responsibility, but out of love.
On Wiktionary, the definition of Feminism is written as followed
"A social theory or political movement which argues that legal and social restrictions on women must be removed in order to bring about equality of the sexes in all aspects of public and private life."
So to me, Feminism is NOT about every little girl wearing t-shirts, sneakers, & jeans, cussing like a sailor, becoming that one girl on the school football team, or even having a job (though I am in firm agreement about us being treated with equal respect and getting paid with the same merit as our male counterparts).
It's about us having the FREEDOM to live our lives as we choose, be it as bachelorette, married/divorced woman, a fulltime/part-time homemaker, or that go-getting, no-nonsense businesswoman.
So long as you are happy, kind, & at peace,
and not inflicting harm on yourself or others with how you go about it,
🐞Happy International Women's Day🐞

These are some videos I often fall back on listening to in moments when my faith with mankind in general is shaken.
Sadly, that feeling seems to increase a little more each year.
Are we all not men?
Who Think, Feel, Bleed, and Die just the same as any other?
Pray. Pray that the words & actions of wiser men prevail.
And for the follies of madmen to be stifled.
Or else all of our of days will be numbered.
